Julian Hattem is a writer and editor who focuses on US and international politics, policy, migration, conflict and popular culture. He is currently the editor of the Migration Information Source, the journal of the Migration Policy Institute. He has previously been on staff with the Associated Press, The Hill and The Yomiuri Shimbun and has been awarded a Transatlantic Media Fellowship from the Heinrich Boell Foundation North America and an International Journalism Fellowship from the International Reporting Project. He holds a BA in Anthropology from the University of Chicago and a MSc in Conflict Studies from the London School of Economics. He has reported from four continents and is currently based in Washington.

His writing has appeared in The Guardian, The Washington Post, PRI, World Politics Review, NPR, Quartz, Prefix Magazine, New Internationalist and The Atlantic, among other outlets. He has appeared on radio and TV programs including MSNBC, CBC, C-SPAN, BBC World Service and SiriusXM. He is HEFAT certified.
